North Carolina is more than capable of keeping up with her team and using her excellent range to begin punishing enemy units while they close. Her fully upgraded top speed of 28 knots is immediately noticeable, and while other Tier VIII battleships like Bismarck, Tirpitz, and Amagi can still outrun her, the gap in speed is limited to a only few knots. North Carolina boasts speed, protection, armament, and handling that represent improvements in ship design made over the span of a 15-year gap in American battleship construction that began in the mid-1920's. She is a welcome change of pace for players used to the 21 knot top speed of New York, New Mexico, and Colorado, and is a radical departure from the pudgy appearance and mediocre firing range of her dreadnought predecessors. If you want something new to try, give this build a shot. The biggest transition in American battleship game play, North Carolina is the first fast battleship of the American line. I can now brawl somewhat and most of all I'm less fearful of DDs at close range.Īt a minimum it gives me another option in terms of gameplay without handicapping the ship. And yes the secondaries are useless against anything larger than a DD lol. Granted the NC's secondaries are lame compared to every other ship but they're sufficient to deter DDs. DDs never expect an NC to start pouring out accurate secondary fire at 7.6km and it's just enough to drive most away. So how is it? It lets me bring in the NC that much closer. No AA either as most CVs avoid NC's on principle anyway and the CV population at this tier is small. I don't bother with the plotting room upgrade since with the dispersion that range boost doesn't really contribute much. So I figured I'd try tossing in manual secondary skill and the secondary module to mix things up. I love the NC but it can pretty one-dimensional - aim bow at enemy, fire big shells, repeat.
